Miley Cyrus Turns Down Fan's Prom Invitation

Miley Cyrus has seen Matt Peterson's video invitation to prom, with its callbacks to previous encounters and a quirky pledge to make the May 3 event the greatest night of her life. Sadly, she's busy that night.

In a YouTube video posted Jan. 31, Peterson shows footage of himself crying when meeting Cyrus in 2009. "Those tears were super manly, right?" he asks. Fast-forward six months and Cyrus paused a concert on her "Wonder World" tour to say hi to her "friend" Matt. "As you can see, we've had some great memories together. But I'm ready to make some more," he says.

Later in the video, the 17-year-old Arizonan tries to formally ask Cyrus to prom but runs into trouble with his outfit. He eventually finger-snaps into nothing but his birthday suit and a strategically placed foam finger before popping the question. "Miley Cyrus, will you go to prom with me? I promise you it will be the best night of your life. And if you aren't the slow dancing type. No worries, I go to public school and grinding is allowed."

The video went viral, attracting over 500,000 views, and over the weekend Cyrus delivered her answer.

Though not exactly the response he was looking for, you could say Peterson has taken Cyrus' rejection in stride.

Cyrus hasn't said why she can't make it to the May 3 event, but it's understandable given the date falls between concerts in Amsterdam (May 2) and Antwerp (May 4) on her Bangerz tour.
