Foster the People Drops New Single, Announces Second Album

Foster the People Attracts Hipsters, Moms with 'Pumped Up Kicks' Single

"Supermodel" arrives March 18 via Columbia Records

After teasing a 2014 return at the beginning of the month, Foster the People is fully back, with a new single and an upcoming album to show for it.

The Los Angeles alternative rock act will release "Supermodel," its second album, March 18, Rolling Stone reports. The 12-track album includes "Coming of Age," the first single, which was teased earlier this month and dropped in full today (Jan. 13).

The new song, which features a time-lapse video to go with its initial release, represents very little in terms of artistic departure for Foster the People. "Coming of Age" showcases frontman Mark Foster's high-register vocals, sunny guitar and a peppy chorus, in line with much of the band's previous releases.

Though his opinion certainly could have changed in nearly two years, Foster told Billboard in spring 2012 that the band's second album would be "celebratory," much like its first release, but with "more grit," and that it would be "extremely percussive."

"Supermodel" follows "Torches," the trio's debut album. Released in 2011, "Torches" spawned a No. 3 single on the Hot 100 in "Pumped Up Kicks," which also hit No. 1 on the Alternative Songs chart. The band followed its success with two more top 10 hits in the alternative rock format: "Helena Beat" (No. 9) and "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls)" (No. 5). A fourth single, "Houdini," peaked at No. 37.
