Hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg is crossing over to the literary world, Billboard.com sister site The Book Standard has learned exclusively.

Snoop's first novel, coming this October via Atria Books, is titled "Love Don't Live Here No More." It's the story of a young man living the hard life in Southern California while struggling to make it in the world of hip-hop.

"Snoop, by nature of what he does, is a storyteller," says Kathleen Schmidt, vice president and director of publicity for Atria, a division of Viacom's Simon & Schuster.

This is the first novel in a street-lit series headed by Snoop for Atria. "Books speak more to a female audience than does his music," Schmidt says, "so these novels give him an opportunity to show, particularly his female fans, another side."
