Jerry Lee Lewis will inaugurate Time Life's "Legends of American Music" with the three-disc boxed set "Jerry Lee Lewis: A Half Century of Hits." The June 13 release was overseen by Lewis and features the first two songs he ever recorded at age 16: "New Orleans Boogie" and a cover of Lefty Frizzell's "Don't Stay Away."

Major hits like "Great Balls of Fire," "Whole Lot of Shaking Goin' On" and "Chantilly Lace" are included in the collection, whose discs are separated by Lewis' tenures at Sun, Universal and Warner Music.

"A Half Century" also includes a handful of previously unreleased live performances from 1964 and 1981, plus an in-studio argument between Lewis and Sun founder Sam Phillips about the religious implications of rock'n'roll.

As previously reported, Lewis plans to release "Redemption" in September, his first studio album in nearly 11 years. The Columbia project will feature guest appearances from artists like Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Jimmy Page.
