A host of unreleased Black Crowes material will see the light of day Aug. 29 via the Rhino double-disc set "The Lost Crowes." The tracks comprise sessions originally put to tape in 1993 and 1997 and feature some songs that were ultimately re-recorded for other Black Crowes albums.

Disc one, dubbed "The Band Sessions," rounds up tracks recorded in 1997 in Nashville that were intended as the follow-up to the previous year's "Three Snakes & One Charm." Among the highlights are an early version of "By Your Side" dubbed "If It Ever Stops Raining," the riffy "Paint an 8" and groove-driven numbers such as "Life Vest" and "Another Roadside Tragedy."

The second disc sports 16 cuts under the moniker "The Tall Sessions," including seven early versions of songs that would appear on 1994's "Amorica" ("Wiser Time," "Cursed Diamond" and "High Head Blues," among them). Among the songs making their studio debut here are "Thunderstorm 654," "Feathers" and an alternate version of "Ballad in Urgency" titled "Lowdown."

Also due on Aug. 29 is the DVD debut of the 1992 home video "Who Killed That Bird Out on Your Window Sill," which offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Crowes' early days plus live and in-studio footage.

As previously reported, the Crowes kick off a summer tour with Robert Randolph and the Drive-By Truckers on June 10 in Auburn, Wash.
