Beck Signs to Capitol, Announces New Album for February

Beck has signed to Capitol Records, with an album of new material -- his first in nearly six years -- scheduled for February 2014.

The album, titled "Morning Phase," is billed as a spiritual successor to "Sea Change," Beck's eighth album, even including many of the musicians who played on the 2002 release.

Though the singer has kept quiet on the album front in recent years, Beck has been busy in the past year. He released "Song Reader," a 20-song book of sheet music for new tunes, in December 2012, leading to covers and interpretations from amateur and renowned musicians alike. Last month, he contributed to Doug Aitken's Station to Station project.

Beck's Capitol debut comes following a career spent mostly with Interscope imprint DGC. The singer-songwriter completed his contract with the label with 2008's "Modern Guilt," his last LP of new material. The album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 4, with single "Gamma Ray" peaking at No. 19 on the Alternative Songs chart.

No other information on "Morning Phase" has been tendered, though more details should trickle in closer to the release date.
