Latin Stars Romeo Santos and Prince Royce Debut on Social 50 Chart

Two Latin stars make their respective debuts on Billboard's Social 50 chart this week: Romeo Santos and Prince Royce.
The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions as measured by music analytics company Next Big Sound.

Romeo Santos enters at No. 18 thanks to an appearance on "Sesame Street." The PBS children's show uploaded a video of the singer (with Elmo!) to its YouTube channel on Oct. 8. In the clip, Santos shows Elmo how to make new friends on the playground by singing him a song titled "Quiero Ser Tu Amigo" (translation: I want to be your friend.) The clip drew 196,000 global views as of Oct. 17 and it led to a 129% rise in engagement around Santos on Facebook. He added 429,000 new fans on the platform, up 132% compared to his addition in the week previous.

One step above Santos, at No. 17, is the also-debuting Prince Royce. His arrival is caused by buzz generated by the release of his third studio album, "Soy El Mismo," on Oct. 8. (It debuts at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums this week.)
This week, Royce adds 461,000 new fans to his Facebook and claimed a 228% spike in Vevo plays. That surge in attention also aids the rise of his hit single "Darte Un Beso," which hits No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs (2-1) with a 21% gain in streams (also rising 3-1 on Latin Streaming Songs).
Taylor Swift receives a bump in the rankings this week and moves 11-4 thanks to an increase in traffic to her YouTube channel. On Oct. 8, Swift posted a video compilation of her final three sold-old shows of her North American Red tour which ended in Nashville on Sept. 21. The views culminated in a 60% increase in weekly plays to her YouTube channel, which helped aid in the over 15 million plays received by Swift this week.

Just below Swift, Bruno Mars (17-7) also makes a jump into the top 10 in the week leading up to the release of the official video for “Gorilla,” which dropped Oct. 16. He readied his online audience for the release by releasing short teaser clips from the video to his Facebook page, which sparked a 64% rise in engagement on the platform and lead to 584,000 new followers.
For the rest of the top 10, Miley Cyrus remains steady at No. 1 while Britney Spears rises 5-2 to knock down Katy Perry (2-3). Rihanna climbs 7-5 thanks to continued popularity of her “Pour It Up” video, which was released Oct. 2. Below her is Demi Lovato (8-6) and Ariana Grande who tumbles (6-8). One Direction (10-9) swaps with Justin Bieber (9-10), who anchors.
