Several songs from the collection have never been available in the United States.
"A lot of these either out of print, or on an old label from Europe which is now extinct. We wanted to make them easier for people to get who collect these sorts of things," Pinback co-founder Zach Smith tells Billboard.com. "Also, there are some different looks on some of the same songs that are already out there."
Tracks include the previously unavailable "Water Run" as well as two versions of "Messenger," which had been available only as a download through Ace Fu's Web site. Smith explains "a lot had to do with timing -- we had already selected the songs that would appear on our records, and some were just written a little later, and didn't have a home."
"We always have a vault of songs that are near completion, and we try to put them on a tour EP to sell when we go out on the road. But some just fall through the cracks," he adds.
Currently, Pinback is hard at work on the follow-up to 2004's critically acclaimed "Summer in Abaddon" at its home studio in San Diego. The set is due next year via Touch & Go; the band will take a break to play the label's 25th anniversary party early next month in Chicago.
Here is the track list for "Nautical Antiques":
