Cars Documentary On The Way, New Cars Rev Back Up
"The Cars Unlocked" gathers up 20 previously unreleased live clips as well as never-before-seen behind the scenes footage. The Ric Ocasek-produced Cars documentary first reported here in July 2005 will be released Oct. 17 as a DVD/CD package via Docurama. "The Cars Unlocked" gathers up 20 previously unreleased live clips as well as never-before-seen behind the scenes footage. The CD adds 14 live tracks, constituting the Cars' first concert album.
"The backstage stuff is stuff in hotel rooms and dressing rooms," Ocasek told Billboard.com last summer. "I think it will be a nice insight into what the Cars were really like. There's interviews, video outtakes, kind of just hamming it up, and some nice club things that probably people wouldn't have gotten to see, from way back. I think it's the most comprehensive thing that's ever been put out on the Cars."
Meanwhile, after postponing its summer tour with Blondie due to an injury suffered by guitarist Elliot Easton, the New Cars are planning to return to the road in the coming weeks. The group, which features Todd Rundgren subbing in for Ocasek, has rescheduled an Atlanta show for Sept. 8 and plans to be on the road consistently through November and December.
However, bassist Kasim Sulton will not be on hand while he honors previous commitments to tour with Meat Loaf in support of the latter's upcoming Virgin album, "Bat Out of Hell III." A replacement for Sulton has been hired but has yet to be announced.
Here is the "Cars Unlocked" live CD track list:
"Touch and Go"
"My Best Friend's Girl"
"Tonight She Comes"
"Moving in Stereo"
"You Might Think"
"Just What I Needed"
"Good Times Roll"
