Alicia Keys will contribute the original song "Almost Everything Is Boinga Here" to the Oct. 9 episode of the Nick Jr. animated series "The Backyardigans." Keys also appears in animated form as a green extraterrestrial, alongside her young niece, Shakyra Lipscomb. The episode will arrive on DVD the following day.

"After speaking with kids who said they loved 'The Backyardigans,' I knew this would be a great project for me to get involved in," says Keys, who is busy with her next J studio album. "Working alongside my niece was so much fun and the people at Nick Jr. helped to make it a great experience

Final Fantasy beat out bigger names such as Broken Social Scene, the New Pornographers, Wolf Parade and Metric to win the first Polaris Music Prize for achievement in the Canadian music scene. The brainchild of Arcade Fire sideman Owen Pallett, Final Fatasy was honored with a $20,000 cash prize for its album "He Poos Clouds."

After four Canadian dates this week, Final Fantasy will head to Europe for a month-long tour that wraps Nov. 1 in Stockholm.

Actor Mike Myers makes his video directing debut with "Always Almost," a track from New York singer/songwriter Mark McAdam's upcoming album, "Cavalcade." The set is due Oct. 17 on McAdam's own Superhead Records; the clip can be streamed from his MySpace.com site.

"I heard the song and I immediately knew I wanted to make the video," Myers says. "I know Mark as a friend and I wanted to put a little bit of his Lower East Side life on film."
