Jon says the new offering will be fun and full of energy. “I ain't trying to save the world and I ain't trying to reinvent the wheel,” the producer tells Billboard.com. “Im'a give people what they know and love me for -- the Crunk s--t and the nice club records for the ladies to dance to. But also on this record, I've got live bands, crazy heavy metal and rock guitars so it's a mixture."
Though Jon has yet to settle on a release date for the disc, he plans to offer his first single featuring Three 6 Mafia on Halloween (Oct. 31) via his MySpace page. "I'm doing some totally different s--t than just a street record," the producer tells Billboard.com. "You'll only be able to hear it on my MySpace page for a day. I don't even want to tell nobody the name yet until two days before I drop it."
Jon adds that he is in the process of transitioning from producer mode to artist mode for the album. "I do everything in stages because I'm like five different people," he says. "I'm the producer, the artist, the label [and] the A&R guy. Since I produce [for] myself, I try to get the beats done first, then I concentrate on vocals ‘cause I'm not really a rapper."
Alongside those frenetic Crunk tracks, Jon is looking to add a rock edge, courtesy of the abovementioned collaborators. “We ain't even got together but we’ve been talking about doing stuff,” says Jon. “I'm kind of early in the album. Im’a prob do all those records last but the stuff I already got, it's crazy.”
"Crunk Rock" will be the follow-up to 2004's "Crunk Juice" by Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz. That disc peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 2.4 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Jon recently helmed tracks for Ciara's upcoming album and is working on Will.i.am's solo debut, as well as projects by Tyrese, UGK and his BME Recordings artist Lil Scrappy.
In addition, Jon is developing the cartoon series "A-Town," which is scheduled to air on Comedy Central next year.
