The Red Hot Chili Peppers converted one of their leading four nominations, taking best album award for "Stadium Arcadium" (Warner Bros.). Other winners included Depeche Mode for best group, Christina Aguilera for best female and Rihanna for best R&B. Muse won for best alternative and the Killers earned the best rock trophy.
MTV this year extended the coverage of its flagship European awards gala across its new media platforms. The network streamed three concurrent feeds on its dedicated MTV EMA Web site, and delivered a mobile TV simulcast which was accessible, it boasts, to more than 20 million European 3G users.
"We've taken this to a whole new level on the digital side. It's no longer TV-centric," MTV Networks International president Bill Roedy tells Billboard.com. "We see it as the biggest multi-platform event, anywhere."
