'N Sync Joins Justin Timberlake on Stage at the MTV VMAs
The rumors were true, 'N Sync came and then said "Bye Bye Bye."
Well, it happened. After much speculation about whether or not Justin Timberlake would bring his old boy band crew ‘N Sync out during his performance tonight at the 2013 Video Music Awards, the rumors were silenced with the appearance of Lance, JC, Joey, and Chris.
Timberlake was introduced alone by comedian Jimmy Fallon, who dubbed him, “The president of pop.” After a brief video montage, JT and his dancers were shown prancing their way to the stage. Once they arrived, Justin performed a medley of his jams. New single “Take Back the Night” first. Then “Sexyback,” “My Love,” and “Like I Love You.” “I still run this bitch,” he yelled once between verses.
Then came the moment. “You asked for it,” Timberlake said as his beats transitioned into ‘N Sync’s slow jam “Gone.” The fellas strutted up on stage to ravenous applause. Taylor Swift looked like she was on the brink of fan tears. Timberlake then declared it was time to, “Show you young boys how to do it.” Shots at the new kids on the block fired!
They launched into “Bye Bye Bye” with the choreography intact, hopping up and whopping their fists to the hook. And just as quickly as they stunned the crowd, the old running mates were finished. Their time was short, but probably as long as a nostalgic moment should be.
Timberlake continued alone, wrapping up with a JAY Z-less “Suit & Tie” and “Mirrors.”
