Boys Banned: *NSYNC Not Invited to Justin Timberlake's Wedding

The upcoming MTV VMAs just might be packing a massive, unexpected punch – an 'N Sync reunion.

The New York Post is reporting that Justin Timberlake and his former bandmates will take the stage together during the show Sunday night at the Barclays Center.

Should the gathering happen, it’ll be one of the pop group's first performances as a unit since they disbanded in 2002.

Though the Post is quoting an unnamed source, a reformed 'N Sync isn’t the greatest leap of the imagination. And the fast-spreading speculation certainly won’t do the VMAs ratings any harm.

'N Sync has just had a reunion of sorts. The crew of J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick were spotted in the VIP section for Timberlake’s show with Jay Z last Friday in Miami.

The paper claims all five stars will come together to celebrate Timberlake collecting the coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, for his "pioneering and innovative impact" on music videos.

The VMAs spotlight should focus on Timberlake for much of the night, regardless of whether 'N Sync  join the singer or not.

JT is nominated for six awards this year (tied with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for the most of any artist) and is up for Video of the Year for his clip for "Mirrors." This year, he has also released official music videos for "Suit & Tie," "Tunnel Vision," and "Take Back the Night," adding to his legacy of memorable music videos, which in the past has included hits like "SexyBack" and "Cry Me a River," which won Best Pop Video in 2003.

Counting his work with 'N Sync, Timberlake is second only to Madonna in total VMA wins, with 14. His follow-up to "The 20/20 Experience" drops Sept. 30.
