Keith Urban will return to the "American Idol" judges table for a second season.
The country star has signed on for the long-running reality show's upcoming 13th season, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Thursday (Aug. 1). At the Television Critics Association press tour, Fox entertainment head Kevin Reilly told reporters, "Keith is going to return to the show."
Urban is the only judge from Season 12 to return for another "Idol" stint: Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj both announced last May that they would be leaving the show after one season each, while Randy Jackson has vacated the judges table after 12 straight seasons. Longtime producer Nigel Lythgoe was also dismissed in June, with Per Blankens taking the reins as the show's executive producer soon after.
Season 12 of "American Idol" wrapped last May with Candice Glover selected as the winner. The finale episode was down more than 40 percent in viewership compared to the previous season, when Phillip Phillips earned the "Idol" crown.
