John Mayer is back, with his voice intact.
In the first fans have heard from the singer/songwriter since undergoing throat surgery for granuloma late last year, Mayer shared a snippet of upcoming single "Shadow Days" on his Tumblr blog.
With an emphasis on acoustic guitars and lap steel, the song has a country feel, while the lyrics address a hopeful comeback: "My shadow days are over," he sings, perhaps a reference to the backlash he received for racially charged remarks in a now-infamous Playboy interview.
New album "Born and Raised," initially due in October 2011 before his medical delay, will now be released this year, giving the musician time to pick up some new tricks: "Learning lap steel," he wrote in a post from November 2011.
