Porter Robinson Video Q&A at Miami Music Week
"Quick-mixing" 19-year-old wunderkind Porter Robinson, who this weekend played Miami's Ultra Music Festival for the second time, has gone far in his short time on the electronic dance music scene. The rising star sat down during Miami Music Week (March 20-25) with Billboard.com EDM correspondent Kerri Mason to talk about his whirlwind year opening for Skrillex and Tiesto ("definitely a baptism by fire," he says) and how not seeing a ton of DJs before his own live debut "lent me a fresh perspective."
Nominated for two awards at the the International Dance Music Awards as part of this week's Winter Music Conference (Best Break-Through Artist Solo and Best Break-Through DJ), Robinson also made it onto Billboard.com's 21 Under 21 ranking last year. At that time, we lauded his "Spitfire" EP, released on Skrillex's OWSLA imprint, saying, "it toes the line between irresistible pop songcraft and dirty electronic throwdown with beyond-his-years craftiness."
