The End Is Near: Team StarKid Announce 'Apocalyptour'

Last time, Team StarKid journeyed to space on their tour, this time they're more earthbound with the announcement of APOCALYPTOUR, which takes the musical theater troupe from their home-base in Chicago starting May 9, weaving west to California before returning to New York for a final show on June 10, with plenty of stops in between.

StarKid's 'Space' Sets Sail, Debuts at No. 2 on Cast Albums Chart

The group first surged to public consciousness when their "A Very Potter Musical" Harry Potter parody went viral on YouTube in the summer of 2009, and they've continued to build a fanatical fan base of teens and young adults who treat theater like rock n' roll, helped in part by their principle songwriter, Darren Criss, landing a breakout role on "Glee" last season. Their albums have breached the Billboard charts ("Me and My Dick" was the first student musical to break the Billboard Top 100 Cast Albums chart) and they've continued to put out new productions, albums and, now, new tours.

In addition to their tour, Team StarKid is releasing a new musical to their popular YouTube page. The comic-book-inspired Holy Musical B@man!, which played to packed houses in Chicago this spring, will premiere online April 13 at 8 P.M. CST. Fans who attended the live shows signed non-disclosure agreements so that no info about the plot or music would leak online so the production will be a surprise for fans not lucky enough to be in the midwest during its run.

Comparing this list of venues to their previous tour, the StarKids have definitely moved up in the world -- last time in New York they played Irving Plaza (capacity 1,200), this time they'll headline Roseland Ballroom (capacity 3,200). They'll be joined again by Charlene Kaye, the New York based singer-songwriter, as their opening act and band member. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 17 at 5 p.m. through Ticketmaster and LiveNation. Prices range from $25 to $35 for general admission, as well as tiered VIP tickets that range from $75 to $125 a piece depending on the perks, which include a tour poster and autograph and photo sessions with the group.
