Alicia Keys Sparks New Album With 'Girl on Fire'

On the Billboard Social 50 this week, Alicia Keys experiences substantial online gains and rises 38-31. The uptick follows a surge in activity following the release of "New Day," a new single Keys released directly to SoundCloud on June 28. Production credit on the single goes to rapper/producer (and Keys' husband) Swizz Beatz.

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

Along with "New Day," Alicia Keys also released a few personal clips to her YouTube channel addressing her fans on how she's grown and developed over the past year. The videos led to a 12% increase in viewership to Keys' YouTube channel and an increase of 340,000 fans across Myspace, Facebook and Twitter during the charting week.

Elsewhere on the Social 50, YouTube star Kurt Schneider debuts after scoring over 2 million views on YouTube with a creatively arranged Bruno Mars medley which includes many of the chart topping artists' hits from "Grenade" to "Marry You." The medley, which also featured actor/musicians Max Schneider and Victoria Justice, helped Schneider experience a 54% increase in overall play activity during the week and sparked a 44% increase in YouTube fan acquisition.

Justin Bieber notches up 4-2 as "Boyfriend" continues to collect spins across streaming services like Spotify, Rdio, Rhapsody and Mog. This week on the On-Demand Songs chart, two tracks from Bieber's album debut: "As Long As You Love Me" featuring Big Sean (No. 44) and "All Around The World" featuring Ludacris (No. 46). This gives Bieber a total of three songs on the streaming services chart, making the 18-year old one of the most listened-to artists in the world.

These plays coincided with the substantial gains that allowed Bieber to increase his standing on the Social 50, as Bieber accrued over 633,000 new fans during the charting week.

Meanwhile, Pitbull increases his standing by five positions (15-10) coinciding with the release of the newest single, "Get It Started," from his upcoming album, "Global Warming."

The track, released to Pitbull's YouTube channel, has racked up over 251,000 views since its release and has aided in a 19% increase in overall online plays during the charting week.

As for the rest of the Top 10, as Katy Perry slides 1-3 while Rihanna re-claims the No. 1 spot (up 2-1). Adele also rising, moving 5-4, as Lady Gaga, still in the middle of her Born This Way Ball tour, surges 10-5. One Direction also jumps, moving 8-6, followed by Shakira (13-7). Linkin Park tumbles 3-8 and Taylor Swift breaks into the top 10 again, moving 11-9.
