Tony Bennett To Release Latin Music 'Duets' Album in October
'Viva Duets' to feature collaborations with Marc Anthony, Chayanne, Gloria Estefan and more.
After a pair of "Duets" albums allowed Tony Bennett to revisit classic songs with the help of some younger stars, the 85-year-old singing legend is returning to the format, this time alongside Latin music's biggest names.
"Viva Duets," due out Oct. 23 on Columbia Records, will feature collaborations with Marc Anthony, Franco DeVita, Gloria Estefan and Juan Luis Guerra, among others, with performances in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The announced track list includes new takes on Bennett songs like "For Once In My Life," "The Very Thought of You" and "The Way You Look Tonight," with more artists and songs to be added to the current rundown.
The live duets were recorded in New York, Ft. Lauderdale, and in Guadalajara; according to a press release, Bennett met many of the artists for the first time during the process. "Each of these artists were so warm and welcoming that there was an instant rapport," he says in a statement. "Latin music has always been about melody and harmony and a lot of soul, so there was a very close artistic connection with each duet guest. I am absolutely thrilled about the record."
With his 86th birthday coming on Friday (Aug. 3), Bennett will give fans a present by releasing his duet with Chayanne on "The Best Is Yet To Come." The only non-Bennett song featured on the album is duet with Vicente Fernandez on Dean Martin's "Return To Me."
Last September, Bennett scored his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 when "Duets II," the follow-up to 2006's "Duets," debuted with 179,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Duets II," featuring collaborations with artists like Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood and the recently deceased Amy Winehouse, made Bennett the oldest living act to capture the top spot of the chart.
