Avicii Plots Fall Tour, Including Historic Radio City Show

Electronic dance music phenom Avicii is bringing his head-shaped DJ booth and sweeping vocal anthems to New York's Radio City Music Hall, as part of a fall tour that will take him from colleges to festivals to concert venues.

The Sept. 27 show, which goes on sale this Friday, Aug. 17, will be the iconic venue's first featuring a DJ headliner, putting Avicii alongside EDM acts who have claimed that same "first" at other meaningful venues, like Swedish House Mafia (Madison Square Garden in New York), Tiësto (Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.) and Kaskade (Staples Center in L.A., Calif.).

"There's a bunch of dates [on the tour] I'm looking forward to, but definitely New York most of all," Avicii, aka Tim Bergling, told Billboard exclusively.

Joel Zimmerman, the artist's booking agent at William Morris, calls the Sept. 27 show a "historic and spectacular moment for fans at the iconic venue. It is a credible statement for where Avicii is taking the electronic music experience, which reflects where the music genre has transcended to."

Today's announced tour dates run throughout September and include colleges during the week, like Temple, Johns Hopkins and Cornell Universities; and major market venues on the weekend, including Radio City, the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, and Mansion nightclub in Miami. Also routed are dates at warring Vegas resorts Wynn (XS and Encore Beach Club) and Cosmopolitan (Marquee); Avicii is one of the few big-name acts without an exclusive residency deal at either one.

The large-scale stage show, which Bergling debuted at Coachella this year, features a white, head-shaped DJ booth, with 3D-mapped projections creating immersive visual effects across its surface.

"Over time I've gotten more relaxed behind the decks; it's a different setup than I'm used to," he says of the highly produced spectacle. "We're always making changes. It's just crazy to see how [the show] keeps getting better and better."

Avicii's career is running on all cylinders beyond just touring. He was recently featured in a print and digital advertising campaign for Ralph Lauren's Denim & Supply; and "Silhouettes," his follow-up to massive single "Levels," just debuted at No. 4 on the Dance/Club Play Chart.

Additional tour dates will be announced over the coming weeks, according to his team.
