Kings of Leon's Jared Followill Unveils New Side Project

Kings of Leon bassist Jared Followill has announced the formation of Smoke & Jackal, a new side project with Nick Brown of the Nashville rock group Mona. "EP1," the duo's first release, will hit stores and digital retailers on Oct. 16 through RCA Records.

Followill and Brown have previewed the project by releasing its first single, "No Tell," on BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday (Aug. 22). The song will be available for purchase on Aug. 28, with a proper music video forthcoming.

"Coming together just worked," says Followill of working with Brown earlier this year in Nashville in a statement. "I think it's because we took such an easy approach to it, we didn't bring any egos to it. We just talked about each other's ideas, neither one of us got our feelings hurt. It just worked."

The self-produced Smoke & Jackal album will serve as a stopgap between Kings of Leon's 2010 disc "Come Around Sundown" and their in-the-works sixth studio album. Earlier this year, Followill popped the question to his girlfriend, Martha Patterson.

Here is the track list for Smoke & Jackal's "EP1":

1. Fall Around
2. No Tell
3. You're Lost
4. Road Side
5. OK OK
6. Save Face
