Prince is preparing to paint Chicago purple.
The musician will play his first performance in the city since 2004 on Sept. 24 at the United Center as part of his "Welcome 2" tour, a jaunt that's taken him through Europe, Australia and North America after launching in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in December 2010.
The tour has been marked by lengthy residencies, include a multi-date run in Los Angeles in 2011, and several reports expect Prince to play multiple Chicago dates.
The presale for the initial show begins Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. Prince has yet to announce further performances, but a trailer for the concert promises "a different show every night."
Prince has also announced a partnership with Rebuild the Dream, an organization working toward "economic justice" through housing, student debt and other political reforms. The group will be present at the Chicago tour.
