With the animated music video for their "Mylo Xyloto" track "Hurts Like Heaven," Coldplay has introduced the main themes of its upcoming "Mylo Xyloto" comic series, which will be released monthly beginning in February. If the "Hurts Like Heaven" video is a marketing stunt, it's a pretty darn gorgeous one.
The Mark Osborne-directed clip for the fifth "Mylo Xyloto" single tells the story of two graffiti artists who fall in love in a time of war -- or at least, oppression, at the hands of the evil Major Minus and his army of Silencers. Before their explosion of colors is wiped away by the Silencers, the graffiti artists inspire a little boy (named Mylo!) to take up their cause. Will he be able to save the world? We'll find out beginning in February.
The "Hurts Like Heaven" video acts as a prequel to the story of the titular character of the comic series, which will be a six-part epic released through Matt Groening's Bongo Comics next year. Pre-orders for the comic series are available now.
As for Coldplay, who released "Mylo Xyloto" last October, the band is winding down its world tour in support of its fifth album with a quick Australian run beginning on Nov. 10. "Live 2012," the band's forthcoming concert film/live album, will be released on CD/DVD on Nov. 20.
