Rolling Stones Bringing Party to Brooklyn
As exclusively reported by Billboard back in August, the Rolling Stones will play a date at Brooklyn's Barclays Center next month -- and it's the opening U.S. date of the group's "50 and Counting" celebration.
The show will take place on Saturday, December 8, with tickets going on sale Monday, November 19 at 10 a.m. It is the first confirmed date of the everything-but-confirmed dates beyond the four sold-out concerts at London's O2 Arena on November 25 and 29 and at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on December 13 and 15. All ticket information is available at www.rollingstones.com.
Rolling Stones Q&A: 'This Juggernaut Is Almost Unstoppable'
The December 15 show will be telecast live via pay-per-view at 9pm ET and is entitled "One More Shot." It will be distributed by WWE.
In announcing the four shows, a statement from the group's reps said, "They will treat their generations of fans in a must-see, heart-pumping celebration of era-defining tracks such as 'Gimme Shelter,' 'Paint It Black,' 'Jumping Jack Flash,' 'Tumbling Dice,' 'It's Only Rock and Roll,' plus a few surprises and countless other classics from GRRR!," a compilation album set for a November release that will celebrate the band's fiftieth anniversary."
Last month, the band didn't comment definitively on its plans beyond the four live dates, although longtime touring saxophonist Bobby Keyes told Billboard that more shows are in the works, and Jagger said as much in an interview with BBC2, according to Reuters: "It's not going to be a long tour, the first bit," he said, when asked how many concerts the Stones planned to perform.
"Everybody loves a celebration, and London and New York are two good places to do it in!" said Jagger. Added Richards: "Sorry to keep you all hanging around, but the waiting is over. I've always said the best place for rock and roll is on the stage, and the same is true for the Stones. I'm here with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and everything is rocking. See you very soon!"
