29 Black Music Milestones: Miles Davis Influences Jazz Music

Miles Davis was a trumpeter, bandleader and composer and considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Davis is said to be at the helm of developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, jazz fusion, modal jazz and hard bop.

Davis' talent combined with his complicated public persona -- he was an outspoken critic of racism and was known for his love for women and fancy cars -- made him a compelling figure and a living legend through his 40 year career.
