Gentlemen Hall drove to Billboard & Chevy's Battle of the Bands live showdown at Las Vegas' Fremont Street Experience on Wednesday (May 18) knowing they were up against tough competition from the five other finalists chosen by Billboard.com voters -- especially California's sweet-voiced AJ Rafael and his vocal supporters. But the Boston rockers eked out the win on the force of a charismatic double-vocalist assault that swayed the evening's MC, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, and the panel of Billboard and music industry judges. Now Gentlemen Hall will appear at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday (May 22), after defeating their fierce competition: Hotels (northwest), AJ Rafael (west), Lightning Love (midwest), Otenki (southwest), and Side By Side (southeast).

The competition's initial pool of 18 artists were selected based on a variety of factors, including Heat Score, a formula that measures online fan engagement and drives Billboard's Uncharted chart of emerging artists. All competing artists have also been given a free subscription to Billboard Pro, a new service and toolset to help artists advance their careers.

In addition to an appearance from our winners Gentlemen Hall, the 2011 Billboard Music Awards will feature performances by Rihanna, the Black Eyed Peas, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Cee Lo, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, and many more.
