'Twilight' Rules MTV Movie Awards, Foo Fighters and Lupe Fiasco Perform

Apparently excited to continue last year's trend of dropping f-bombs in every segment, the MTV Movie Awards carried the swearing to an extreme Sunday night (June 5) at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles, with sweethearts from the cast of the "Twilight" series, host Jason Sudeikis and even Reese Witherspoon getting in on the act as the annual popcorn trophies were handed out for movies that appeal largely to teenagers.

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and its actors won five of the show's 12 awards including best movie and a mock make-out session between Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson got the "Twilight"-loving audience revved up. The rest of the night was filled with sex jokes seemingly left over from "The Hangover II," some of which Sudeikis adapted to talk smack aboout Arnold Schwarzenegger and his love child. While timely and funny, many of the punch line sailed over the audience's collective head.

As did a joke that make reference to Dave Grohl's band prior to Foo Fighters. During a segment in which Sudeikis played joke themes to popular movies, Grohl wheeled out a gong that he begrudgingly banged. Sudeikis joked "who knew he played percussion?" A handful of the folks in the audience got it, knowing full well that Grohl was the drummer in Nirvana. Perhaps the others were unaware of the meaning of "percussion."

Foo Fighters and Lupe Fiasco performed at the largely non-musical event; the Foos played "Walk" while Fiasco was joined by Trey Songz for "Out of My Head" before segueing into "The Show Goes On." During commercial breaks, videos of past Movie Awards musical performances were screened in the theater. They provided a little memory lane stroll: You forget how good Eminem was, how striking TLC could be, how old the Beastie Boys looked in 2004 and how t.A.T.u. never really captured anyone's imagination.

The show also offered sneak peeks at three major releases. Producer Steven Spielberg and director/writer J.J. Abrams introduced the world premiere of 90 seconds from "Super 8"; about 70 seconds of "Harry Potter and the Deadly Hollows: Part 2" were screened: and a 95-second trailer for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" was shown.

The biggest surprise for the Hollywood crowd came immediately following the awards when the skies opened up and rain greeted party-goers as they headed to bars and buffets located outside. Accompanied by chilly winds, the rain likely shooed away the famous as only a handful of cabanas were set up to keep VIPs away from the hoi polloi. The rain died down after about 20 minutes and kicked up again about 15 minutes later, the lure of free food and booze kept the party going.

Among the first-time winners were Justin Bieber, Chloë Grace Moretz, Ellen Page, Alexys Nycole Sanchez and Emma Stone. Witherspoon received the MTV Generation Award.
