Alaska: Jewel was born in Utah, but her family soon moved to Homer (and a home without indoor plumbing). When asked by Larry King in 2010 her opinion of Sarah Palin, Jewel responded, "I can't say we agree on everything (politically). But, Alaska women are can-do women. I love the state I'm from."

It's a boy for Jewel: The singer and co-host of Bravo's reality show "Platinum Hit" welcomed her first son with Ty Murray on Monday in Texas.

Kase Townes Murray was born at 7 p.m. CST and weighed 7 lbs, 6 oz.

"Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy into the world," Jewel tells People magazine. "We are overcome with happiness - it really is as great as everyone told us it would be - better even!"

Jewel discovered she was expecting on her first day of co-hosting "Platinum Hit."

"I took a pregnancy test and it was positive!" she said then. "It was so hard to keep it a secret."

A fire truck hit a car in which she was a passenger in March, when she was five months pregnant, but she was not seriously injured.
