Bette Midler Accuses Lady Gaga Of Stealing 'Mermaid in a Wheelchair' Routine
Angry fans threw eggs at Lady Gaga when she went onstage in Sydney last week dressed as her alter-ego Yuyi, a mermaid in a wheelchair, and now the popstar has sparked the frustration of Bette Midler. The award-winning artist is angry at Gaga for allegedly ripping off her wheelchair-bound mermaid character, Delores Delgado. Midler tweeted on Saturday, "Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it's because it is! You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it," and then posted a few hours later, "Dear @ladygaga I've been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980-You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits-mermaid's mine." Although Gaga has not publicly responded, something changed Midler's tune, and she extended a peace offering yesterday, tweeting: "@ladygaga, let's drink this over at the Emmys in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist!" (@BetteMidler)
