Amy Winehouse Has Century's Top-Selling Album in U.K.

Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" has become the U.K.'s biggest-selling album of the 21st century. The Official Charts Company announced Wednesday (Aug 24) that a surge in sales of Winehouse's sophomore album since her death July 23 had helped it to overtake James Blunt's 2005 release "Back To Bedlam."

The OCC says that U.K. sales of "Back To Black" now stand at 3.26 million, compared to 3.25m for "Bedlam," with Dido's "No Angel" on 3.07m. "Back To Black" recently spent three weeks back at the top of the chart, falling to No. 2 this week behind Nero's "Welcome Reality."

OCC chart methodology before Winehouse's death listed the two versions of the album, the original and deluxe editions, as separate titles. This continued in the first few days after her passing, but since then sales for the two versions have been combined. Total sales for the two editions up to July 23 stood at 3.08 million. Since then, the original and deluxe releases of "Black" have sold an extra 175,000 units, to the end of the last chart frame last Saturday night.
