Not Happening: Any Outdoor Concert in Mean Irene's Path

Hurricane Irene is wreaking havoc on just about every musical happening up and down the East Coast this weekend, including a Dave Matthews Band concert festival -- the DMB Caravan -- on Governor's Island in NYC, which canceled its Saturday and Sunday events.

Jazz fans are out of luck now that the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, set for Harlem on Saturday and Sunday, has been postponed. The city-sponsored fest -- part of the SummerStage series -- will likely be rescheduled.

The Afro-Punk Festival '11 with "F*ck You" singer Cee Lo Green set to headline Saturday and Sunday in Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene, Brooklyn has also been canceled because the city took their permits away. "The Afro-punk festival has been barred from holding any public assembly in Commodore Barry Park this weekend," a statement read.

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg set many cancellations in motion Friday when he revoked every permit for outdoor events in the city.

Among the scratched are two dates for the Rib Rock Festival, which would have brought B.B. King and the J. Geils Band to the Nikon Jones Beach Theater on Saturday and the PNC Bank Arts Center in Newark on Sunday.

Museums and Broadway shows -- namely Disney's "The Lion King" and "Mary Poppins" -- have also announced they're shutting their doors when Hurricane Irene bears down on the Big Apple late Saturday. The Metropolitan Opera was also forced to cancel the first two screenings for its outdoor opera film festival in Lincoln Center Plaza.

Via the AP: Irene is expected to hit North Carolina's coast sometime Saturday and track up the East Coast. The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane watch for New York City, and the storm is expected to come closest to the city sometime Sunday.

A ZZ Top concert scheduled for Sunday at the NYCB Theatre in Wesbury, N.Y. has been moved to Monday, but a Paul Revere & The Raiders show at the same venue on Saturday has been canceled.

Outside of New York, the Solopanna Music Festival in Crownsville, Md. has been canceled outright and the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass. set for Sunday has been pushed back to Aug. 30.

"I'm coming to you today with some bad news," Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows said about the UPROAR news. "There is a hurricane that's going to go through Boston and with all of the tragedies that have happened around the world with Belgium and Indiana, we have decided to move the show to Tuesday."
