Coheed and Cambria drummer Chris Pennie has announced his departure from the prog-rock group, three months after the group's bassist, Michael Todd, left the group.

Pennie, a former member of the Dillinger Escape Plan, has issued a statement (via Noisecreep) that explains the amicable split and discusses his future projects, including the metal band Return to Earth.

"I am very thankful for the years that I shared the stage with the guys and want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I've met while on tour, but there are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon, in addition to Return to Earth and Fight Mannequins, that I feel require my absolute 100 percent commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen."

On July 10, Todd was arrested for allegedly robbing a Massachusetts pharmacy, hours before the group performed with Soundgarden that night. Less than a month later, Todd, who had been with the group since 2007, was officially relieved of his bass duties.

The only remaining members of Coheed and Cambria at this time are lead singer/guitarist Claudio Sanchez and guitarist Travis Stever. The band's fifth studio album, "Year of the Black Rainbow," was released last year.
