On his first concert DVD, "Live From The Artists Den," Grammy-nominated artist/producer Raphael Saadiq takes his fans through a journey of some of the musical eras of the 50s, 60s and 70s. The former Tony! Toni! Tone! frontman performs live interpretations off his latest and third solo album, 2008's soulful "The Way I See It" (Columbia), including the title track, "Keep Marchin'" and "100 Yard Dash," the latter which can be watched here exclusively.
Backed by a nine-piece band, the set was taped on December 3rd, 2008 at Boston's Harvard Club and first aired as part of public television's weekly series, "Live From The Artists Den." The DVD -- with additional concert footage and interviews -- was released on July 21, 2009 through Artists Den Entertainment and Columbia Records, marking the third concert DVD released from The Artists Den and first joint release with Columbia.
Other tracks included in the 18-song showcase are "Charlie Ray," "Sure Hope You Mean It" and "Big Easy," a tribute to victims of Hurricane Katrina, among others. "The Way I See It" was nominated for three Grammys for Best R&B Albums, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group.
