The young star's "What About Love" video has boosted him back up the chart.
Rising pop-star Austin Mahone re-enters the Social 50 chart at No. 34 following the June 10 debut of a new single, “What About Love” (Chase Records/Republic). The track’s official VEVO music video debuted shortly afterwards last week, which helped contribute the points necessary for Mahone’s chart return.
The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions.
The video helped contribute to the over 5 million views to Mahone’s VEVO channel during the charting week (up 163% over the previous week). The release also spurred a measurable increase in online reaction as well. A 13% rise in conversation on Facebook led to the addition of 122,000 new fans on the platform (up 66%), a number that greatly contributed to the over 267,000 new fans added by Mahone overall across all monitored platforms.
Elsewhere on the Social 50, current Billboard Hot 100 champ Robin Thicke debuts at No. 49. The singer experiences a 44% jump in weekly Facebook fan acquisition (adding 69,000 new fans) and a 9% jump in Twitter follower acrual (where he added over 20,000 new followers on the platform). The success of the “Blurred Lines” video still continues to bring Thicke attention on VEVO, where he notched 6.6 million views for the week.
Wiz Khalifa ascends on the tally as well as he released a new music video for the track “Paperbond” on June 11. The song garnered over 376,000 views on VEVO, adding significantly to the over 4.5 million plays to Khalifa’s name during the charting week. The video’s impact was felt in a 219% rise in weekly conversation on Facebook, which in turn led to the addition of 124,000 new fans on the platform. By June 20, more than a week since its debut, it has received 523,000 views.
With Justin Bieber (No. 1), Taylor Swift (No. 2), Rihanna (No. 3), Bruno Mars (No. 4) and Pitbull (No. 5) remaining in the same position as they were last week, there is little movement to report on the Social 50's top 10 leaderboard this week. Beyonce ascends two positions (8-6), receiving a boost in social activity after a fan video was released to her YouTube channel Monday, June 10. One Direction slips (6-7) while Eminem jumps 14-8 to return to the top 10. Jennifer Lopez slides (7-9) as P!nk ascends (11-10) to anchor the region.
