The Beatles had "The White Album." Jay-Z had "The Black Album." And on Tuesday (June 11), the Lonely Island returns with... "The Wack Album."
What's so wack about the trio's third studio effort? Pretty much everything, according to the Lonely Island -- comedians Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone -- who sat down for an interview with Billboard's Chris Payne to discuss the making of the project.
With the guys all in their mid-30s, the new disc is sort of a grown-up album -- emphasis on "sort of." The new mindset is embodied perfectly in "YOLO," a prankish cautionary tale that warns against the dangers of loud clubs, drugs, young people, and all modes of transportation. The track debuted Jan. 26 on "Saturday Night Live," and the Lonely Island give the backstory on putting it together with guest stars Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar.
They also talk about putting together their first LP since moving on as full-time "SNL" writers and cast members. The Lonely Island have been tight since grade school, so it's no surprise they're staying fresh.
