The Temper Trap Recording Demos in Paradise, Making Progress on Third Album

The Temper Trap’s third album is coming along swimmingly, if their recording studio’s promotional video is anything to go by.

The members of the alternative rock band give an update on the sessions for their new album by means of a promo for the La Casa studio in Byron Bay, an east-coast Australian beachtown popular with surfers.

The band mates are clearly enjoying the recording process. They’re seen diving into lakes and surfing, and laughing it up. And, importantly, there’s some images and audio of them getting to work on album No. 3.

Having logged two recent stays at the studio, the group have recorded a number of demos for their next album with Malay, the L.A. producer who collected a Grammy Award for his work on Frank Ocean's album “Channel Orange.” Frontman Dougy Mandagi met Malay during songwriting sessions in California, while his bandmates have been honing their craft in London.

On this upcoming album, explains bass player Jonathon Aherne, “we feel there is a bit of pressure. As we’ve discerned and had feedback from album two, and reviewed our strengths from album one, there’s a pretty clear vision of what we want to do.”

The multiple ARIA Award-winning group broke out with their 2009 debut “Conditions” (Liberation/Glassnote/Columbia) and its global hit “Sweet Disposition,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart.

Their self-titled follow-up was warmly received, particularly at home. But international sales weren’t as hot as many observers had anticipated. “The Temper Trap” opened at No. 1 on the ARIA albums chart on its release in May 2012 and it’s since been certified platinum, as has the lead single “Trembling Hands.”

The band members are aware of expectations.

“I always felt we weren’t going to hit our stride until this next record,” adds guitarist Lorenzo Sillitto.

La Casa describes itself as a “welcoming house in an idyllic beachfront location, unparalleled natural beauty, a space where artists can escape, be inspired, collaborate and create.”
