CBGB -- the legendary rock venue from Manhattan's East Village -- may be no more, but its festival is returning for a second straight year, marking the brand's 40th anniversary. 2013's CBGB Music & Film Festival will run Wed., Oct. 9 to Sun., Oct. 13 in venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Although no acts have been announced so far, the festival will include a sprawling "700 emerging and established artists" playing at over 175 venues. The Landmark Sunshine Theater on E. Houston St. will serve as the hub of the festivities.
Last year's festival attracted over 300,000 fans and featured bands like Guided By Voices, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Cloud Nothings.
As for the film side, CBGB co-owner Joe D'Urso said, "We will have approximately 40 movie premieres and 100 screenings. No other major film festival in the country focuses exclusively on music-themed movies on this scale... (it's) positioned to be the leading rock and roll film festival in the country."
