Deftones Cover Kris Kross' 'Jump' in Honor of Chris Kelly: Watch
The Deftones have paid tribute to Kris Kross' Chris Kelly by performing the duo’s career-defining hit, "Jump."
The rock outfit last night played The Pageant in St Louis, where they delivered a full-throttle rendition of Kris Kross' global 1992 hit. In the lead-up, frontman Chino Moreno tells the audience, “we just got word that a member of Kris Kross has passed. I know it's not good news." Watch the clip below:
The Deftones know all too well the pain of losing a bandmember. The act's bass player Chi Cheng died recently at the age of just 42. Cheng had had been in a semi-conscious state since a 2008 car accident.
News spread Wednesday of Kelly's death at just 34. The Fulton County Police have told reporters that Kelly's death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose. An autopsy will be performed Thursday morning.
Following its release in 1992, "Jump" went on to top the Hot 100 for eight weeks, becoming the first rap song to have achieved such a lengthy reign at the top. No other rap song had led the chart for so long.
