The singer says his upcoming album will shoot for a "mellow acoustic vibe."
Fresh off the release of Cody Simpson's new single and video for "Pretty Brown Eyes," Billboard caught up with the pop star at the Radio Disney Music Awards on April 27.
"Pretty Brown Eyes" is the lead track from Simpson's upcoming second full-length album, due in July on Atlantic Records. (A release date and title have not been announced yet.) Simpson says the uptempo, summery cut is "the most fun record on the album," but that there are a "couple records like that" on the set. Most of the effort mines the "mellow acoustic vibe" of Simpson's inspirations, such as Jack Johnson, Donavon Frankenreiter, Jason Mraz and John Mayer.
Simpson will be seen performing a medley of "Awake All Night" and "Pretty Brown Eyes" on the Radio Disney Music Awards, which premieres May 4 on Disney Channel.
Before his new album drops, Simpson will hit the road on his Paradise Tour, which launches May 30 in Jacksonville, Fla. The 36-date trek winds through the U.S. and Canada, with Ryan Beatty as its special guest. Simpson's new album follows 2012's "Paradise," which debuted and peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 52,000 in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
