Travis Tritt Will Sing National Anthem at NCAA Championship Game
Travis Tritt has been tapped to deliver the national anthem at the championship game of the NCAA Men's Final Four tournament, being held Monday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Georgia native and two-time Grammy winner's performance will be broadcast on CBS before tipoff at 9:23 p.m. ET. The matchup will be determined at semi-finals on Saturday between Louisville-Wichita State and Michigan-Syracuse.
It's a safe bet that Tritt's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" will be more traditional than last year's championship game, when The Fray tried to reinvent it.
"My fingers froze last night," guitarist Joe King wrote on Twitter following the widely panned performance that included two out-of-synch guitars, a drummer-boy drum and a tambourine. "If anyone wants to join me I'll be at the loser bar tonight."
Other artists that will be handling anthem duties at this year's tournament include HLN morning show host Robin Meade (Division II championship game) and country singer Angela Reign (Division II). The renowned Ebenezer Baptist Church and Friends will be on hand at the semi-finals.
