The YouTube phenom-turned-recording artist will perform at the 135th annual event.
Austin Mahone is heading to the White House.
The 16-year-old YouTube phenom-turned-recording artist will perform at the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll on April 1, Easter Monday, which sees more than 30,000 people visiting the South Lawn of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for games, stories and the traditional egg roll. The event is focused on promoting health and wellness, with the theme "Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!," as part of first lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative.
“I am so honored to have been selected as one of the performers for this year’s Easter Egg Roll,” said Mahone. “When I started making videos online, I would have never imagined I would end up performing as part of such a long lasting White House tradition.”
2013 is shaping up to be a busy year for Mahone. In addition to recording his debut album, the pop singer is also gearing up to join Taylor Swift on her U.S. tour in May.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, Mahone said fans could expect “new singles,”“more dancing,” “pryo” and a grand entrance from his live performances.
“I’ll probably swing in from the ceiling,” he teased.
As for his upcoming album, Mahone promises collaborations, but wouldn’t comment on any confirmed guest vocalists. He did admit to asking Lil Wayne for a feature, though.
“I’m still working on that,” he said of pursuing the rap star.
