The new single is "a pretty good indication" of the album's direction, the MC says.
Wale has unveiled the album title and release date for his third studio album, along with the video for its lead single, "Bad." The album, "The Gifted," will be released June 25.
In an interview with Philly’s Power 99, Wale discussed the direction of the new album.
“It’s gonna have one sound. It’s very, very soulful. ‘Bad’ is a pretty good indication of the direction that I’m going for on this particular project. It’s a little nostalgic, a little vintage, but the sounds will make you feel on this album,” he said.
"Bad" features R&B newcomer and Indianapolis native Tiara Thomas. The track was featured on his mixtape "Folarin," released late last year, and will be featured on the upcoming album as well. The video stars Eddie Murphy’s daughter, Bria, as the love interest. The plot is set around Bria playing the bad girl, going clubbing with friends and hooking up with random guys instead of sticking around after steamy bedroom sessions with the MC. But her bold moves keep Wale interested, tying into the opening of the song, "Bad girls ain't no good, and the good girls ain't no fun."
In addition to working on his new album, Wale's already putting in work on his fourth studio album, "The Album About Nothing," due out later this year. He also has a mixtape with Meek Mill in the works and his own solo mixtape, "Nothing."
