'Timing Was Right,' Says D'Esposito

The Skate And Surf Festival will return after an eight-year hiatus to the Plaza Green at iPlay America in Freehold, N.J. on May 18-19, with A Day To Remember set to headline.

Other acts announced include Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Saves The Day, Bayside, Andrew W.K., Hopsin, Transit, Into It. Over It., Hostage Calm, Issues, Tyler Carter, and This Good Robot. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

The Skate And Surf Festival is produced by GameChanger World, an artist-powered mobile gaming platform company, led by John D'Esposito, founder of the Bamboozle festivals and tours, and formerly a New Jersey-based buyer for Live Nation.

Skate and Surf began as a local gathering for skate punks in 2002 in Asbury Park, N.J., and evolved into Bamboozle. D'Esposito and his team are working closely with iPlay America/Encore Event Center, and its President and CEO Robert McDaid in bringing back the event.

"I felt the timing was right to revive the Skate And Surf Festival," D'Esposito, known in the industry as John D., says in a statement. "It's where it all began for me, and sometimes you need to go back to your roots. We are also really looking forward to bringing the festival to The Plaza Green at iPlay America and Freehold. It's the perfect setting and we are very committed to making this one of the best live music events in 2013."

Skate And Surf Festival alumni include My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Joan Jett, New Found Glory, the Descendents, and Coheed and Cambria. As a ramp-up to this year's event, Skate And Surf will stage the Break Contest, an unsigned band competition to be held in several tri-state venues.
