While Shakira hasn't been particularly active on the music scene as of late, she still manages to keep her fans as engaged via social networks. This week, she jumps into the top five of Billboard's Social 50 chart after tweeting and Facebook sharing a photo (through Instagram) of her baby bump.
The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist pageviews, song plays and reactions.
"Podría estar 9 meses más así! I could have another 9 months like this! Shak," the pop star wrote Nov. 27. Also in the photo is her boyfriend and FC Barcelona football player, Gerard Piqué.
The picture's popularity channeled a torrent of activity that propelled Shakira up the Social 50 chart (14-5) to break the top five for the first time since the week of February, 2 2012. The Tweeted photo has received 13,000 likes on Instagram and 684,000 post-likes on Facebook where it was also shared, contributing to a 100% increase in her weekly reaction (measured via Facebook's People Talking About This statistic). That engagement helped her add 73,000 followers on Twitter (28% weekly increase).

Fans rushed to her VEVO channel to listen to her new tracks as well, evidenced by 10% rise in weekly views (7.5 million total for the week).
A SOCIAL 'SCREAM': During the same episode of "The X Factor" where Alicia Keys performed, Britney Spears and will.i.am premiered the music video for their new single, "Scream & Shout." The exposure helped the Black Eyed Peas' frontman debut on the Social 50 at No. 49, following a 17% increase in overall fan acquisition. A 3% increase in weekly conversation on Facebook led to the addition of 80,000 fans on the platform.
Britney Spears received a boost as well, adding 317,000 fans to her overall fan base and rising 21-12 in the tally. The video itself currently stands at over 18 million views on VEVO.
The rest of the top 10 remains pretty steady, with Rihanna and Justin Bieber holding the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, respectively. Taylor Swift (No. 3) flip-flops with One Direction (No. 4) as PSY continues his downward trajectory (5-7). Bruno Mars steps down a position (7-8) as does Katy Perry (8-9). Eminem rises to finish the top 10 (15-10) after appearing on 50 Cent's new song "My Life" along with Adam Levine.
