Although details are still coming together, Faith Hill is planning "newer, different" versions of some of her best-known songs for "The Hits," due Oct. 2 via Warner Bros. The album will also include two new songs: "Red Umbrella" and "Lost," which has been at radio since July, having peaked at No. 32 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
"It's been difficult selecting the songs for 'The Hits,'" Hill says. "But when we decided to focus on what you'd want, the decisions became much clearer. We're planning on newer, different versions of some songs and we've got a few new surprises. Leave it to me, I would've made a whole album of surprises, but then it wouldn't have been 'The Hits' and it wouldn't be coming out on Oct. 2nd."
The album also features such Hot Country Songs chart-toppers as "Breathe," "This Kiss" and "Mississippi Girl," plus her early cover of the Janis Joplin-popularized "Piece of My Heart."
In other Hills news, her Soul2Soul tour with husband Tim McGraw has become the top-grossing country tour ever after hauling in $52 million this year, according to Billboard Boxscore. The two-summer total thus runs to $141 million, topping Garth Brooks' 1996-98 tour, which grossed more than $105 million. Until now, the Brooks trek had been country's only $100 million run.
Here is the track list for "The Hits":
"There You'll Be"
"The Way You Love Me"
"Secret of Life"
"Let Me Let Go"
"It Matters To Me"
"Piece of My Heart"
"I Need You"
