Hi Keith,

I was just wondering if you could give me an idea of how Delta Goodrem's single "In This Life" is doing on the Billboard charts and overall in the U.S.?

As you would know she is quite adored here in Australia, so we're all keen to know!

Sean Teasdale

Hello Sean,

Delta Goodrem's single "In This Life" rises from No. 40 to No. 38 on the Hot AC/Adult Top 40 radio airplay chart this week (the chart dated June 28).

And, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the tune has sold 7,000 digital downloads.

So, she's doing fairly OK right now charts and sales-wise. She is obviously a huge star in Australia, but is still essentially unknown to the mainstream here in America.

Hi Keith,

Can you tell me how musical soundtrack albums have been doing over the last few years? It seems there's been resurgence. Specifically (with albums like) "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Hairspray," "Dreamgirls" and "Once."

Thank you,

John Levy

Hi John,

Interestingly enough, four of the top 10 best selling soundtracks this year (through the week ending June 15) are from musicals. And that's not even counting two "Hannah Montana" albums, either. So far, the "Once" soundtrack is the year's fourth best-seller, while the deluxe edition of "Across the Universe" (No. 5), "High School Musical 2" (No. 6) and "Sweeney Todd" (No. 9) all feature in the top 10.

In 2007, three Disney related albums were Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the year's best selling soundtracks list, while "Hairspray" came in fourth. On top of that, "Dreamgirls" was No. 6 for the year.

Speaking specifically to the albums you asked about, here are their sales tallies. "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" has sold 147,000 in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 2007 soundtrack from "Hairspray" has shifted 1.1 million, the single-disc edition of the Beyonce-led "Dreamgirls" album has moved 1.1 million and the "Once" album has shifted 584,000.

I am from Mexico, and all the time I hear about the rivalry between our top two female singers Thalia and Paulina Rubio. People are always speculating about who has sold more albums or who has more No. 1 hits. I was checking the archive charts online and I think Thalia has more No. 1 hits. But how many albums have they each really sold?

Jorge A. Rincon

Hello Jorge,

In the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, Thalia has sold 1,374,000 albums while Paulina Rubio has sold 1,269,000.

Thalia has racked up 17 hits on our Hot Latin Songs chart, with four of those reaching No. 1 ("Entre El Mar Y Una Estrella," "Tu Y Yo," "No Me Ensenaste" and "Cerca De Ti").

Rubio, on the other hand, has notched 25 hits on Hot Latin Songs, though only three of those went to No. 1 ("Te Quise Tanto," "Dame Otro Tequila" and "Ni Una Sola Palabra").
