On Dec. 7, in a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage in Washington, D.C., performers from around the world will salute the 2008 honorees. The show will be broadcast on CBS.

The actual honors will be bestowed the night before the gala at a State Department dinner hosted by secretary of state Condoleezza Rice.

The honors recipients, recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts, are selected by the Center's board of trustees.
