Crossover classical group Il Divo debuted at No. 1 on yesterday's new U.K. album chart with "The Promise" (Syco Music/Sony BMG), and the label also continues its stranglehold on the singles survey with the X Factor Finalists' charity release "Hero."

It's the third U.K. chart-topping album for Il Divo, which Syco says had sold 22 million copies worldwide of its three prior releases. The group will start a world tour next February. "The Promise" outsold Welsh rock band Stereophonics' new retrospective "Best Of -- Decade in the Sun" (V2) to secure the top spot. That entered at No. 2, as last week's best-seller, Girls Aloud's "Out of Control" (Fascination/Polydor/Universal), fell to No. 3.

Kings Of Leon's platinum-certified "Only by the Night" (Hand Me Down/Sony BMG) climbed back 6-4 in its eighth chart week, as its second single "Use Somebody" improved 25-21. Enya's "And Winter Came" (Warner Bros.) arrived at No. 6 and Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Gettin' Better -- A Decade of Hits" (RCA) opened at No. 10.

The X-Factor version of Mariah Carey's "Hero" remained at No. 1 ahead of new competition from T.I., whose "Live Your Life" (Atlantic) made a spectacular 39-2 climb. The singles top 10 also included a No. 4 entry for the Killers' "Human" (Vertigo/Universal) and an 8-5 climb for Alesha Dixon's "The Boy Does Nothing" (Asylum/Warner Music). British soul star Lemar raced 61-14 with "If She Knew" (Epic).

On Billboard's pan-European surveys, AC/DC's "Black Ice" (Columbia) begins a third week at the European Top 100 Albums summit, while Guru Josh Project's "Infinity 2008" (Bigcitybeats) is in a second atop Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.
