With the announcement today of Taylor Swift's new album, 1989, came with an explanation for its full-blown pop lead single "Shake It Off": Not only is the album title in dedication to the year in which she was born, it's also a referential mark to the era from which she's found new musical inspiration.

But some haters ("haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate") have been calling Swift's supposed '80s love bologna, challenging her knowledge of the decade's hits. So, either in honor of Swift's album title, or as a primer to her and anyone else unfamiliar with the music of that year, we've selected our Top 10 favorite songs from 1989's year-end Hot 100 list.
